Japanese Intern Learns the Real Estate Ropes from Coldwell Banker Executive Vice President Kevin Risen

DENVER - If you're from a foreign country and you want to learn the intricacies of the real estate business in America, the logical procedure is to shadow a Coldwell Banker executive or leading broker associate. Akira Sakurai, who will soon earn his Masters of Science degree in Real Estate and Construction Management from the University of Denver, is spending this summer as an intern with Coldwell Banker Residential Brokerage, working closely with Kevin Risen, the company's Executive Vice President in Colorado. It has been a relationship based on friendship, education, and professionalism and a rewarding experience for both Risen and Sakurai.

"This relationship began as a result of a friendship that Akira has with a Coldwell Banker franchise owner in Japan," said Risen. "Akira wanted to work with us in various capacities to further enhance his understanding and knowledge of the real estate business in Colorado and the United States. As you might imagine, there are many differences in the way we operate compared to the real estate business or business in general in Japan. Akira has been a delight to work with and he has been willing to assist us in administrative and leadership functions. It's has been a fun, rewarding experience and we all wish Akira well in his future endeavors once the summer internship ends."

Sakurai will earn his Masters degree from DU in November. He already holds a B.A. degree in International Education and Cultures from Tokyo Gakugei University. His background includes a position as chief coordinator and facility manager for Cosmosmore Inc., a real estate and construction company. Sakurai has been a real estate broker in Japan since February 2001 and earned his California real estate license in August 2003.
